Wow, the men and women wearing the lab coats have been busy in the celebrity circle recently. First former child star Gary Coleman dies from cerebral hemorrhaging, and now Dennis Hopper has passed after a battle with prostate cancer. I grew up watching Diff’rent Strokes on television so I saw the “Whatch’ you talking ’bout” catch phrase originate. It really is a shame that fame and fate weren’t kinder to the child actors from that show. Dana Plato, who played Kimberly, died from a drug overdose not too long ago, and Todd Bridges was acquitted of murder in 1993 due to a ruling of self-defense. Dennis Hopper was one of my favorite bad guys. He may not have always participated in the best movies, but he always made sure you knew he was having fun in them. Everyone points to his roles in Apocalypse Now and Midnight Cowboy as his most iconic, but I saw him first in Speed and Waterworld. A lot of people give Waterworld a bad rap. but I honestly don’t mind that one. You have to suspend a little disbelief, but for the most part it’s an enjoyable 90+ minutes. They always say celebrity death come in threes, and I worry about who is next.
